Will Sunderland win City of Culture 2021 title tonight ?

Sunderland will know tonight if it takes the title of City of Culture 2021.

The Wearside bid was shortlisted along with 4 others - Swansea, Stoke, Coventry, and Paisley.

The winner will be revealed live on TV tonight in the current city of culture - Hull.

Speaking with Sun FM, Paul Callaghan from the Sunderland Music Arts and Culture Trust says the city is on the way up:

Representatives from the Sunderland 2021 bid team are in Hull for a live on TV announcement this evening.

The reveal will be made live on the One Show.

Speaking with Sun FM, is the Chair of Sunderland 2021 Graeme Thompson says it will have a huge impact on Sunderland's economy.

Thousands of people and organisations from across Wearside have fed in to make the Sunderland City of Culture bid all it can be.

With a number of key players in the city of Sunderland taking on the role of ambassadors for the bid including Sun FM's Simon and Danni, Sunderland born-Coronation Street actress Melanie Hill, Futureheads frontman Barry Hyde and many more..

Other from outside of the city have also endorsed the Sunderland bid including pop star Pixie Lott.

Martin Longstaff Lake Poets

Speaking with Sun FM last night at the final of the Genfactor 2017 competition - One of the ambassadors for the Sunderland City of Culture 2021 bid, Martin Longstaff, the frontman of Sunderland's Lake Poets outlined why he wants a Wearside win.
