Theatre producers are on the hunt for a four-legged star to take centre stage at the Sunderland Empire.
Closed auditions are being held today for the part of 'Rufus', one of two dogs to be cast for Legally Blonde: The Musical.
They say they'd like a big, brutish, dog that only its mother could love - preferably a Bull Dog - but they're open to options.
The Broadway smash comes to Wearside for 6 days in April.
The shows Associate Director David Barrett, said:
"Legally Blonde The Musical is a show all about stereotypes and not judging a book by its cover and the dogs are no different in this. So whereas 'Bruiser' is the cute, tiny, adorable one, with 'Rufus' we are looking for the total opposite. We are looking for a big, brutish, dog that only its mother could love - preferably a Bull Dog as in the film but we are certainly open to options."
EastEnders' Roxy Mitchell, actress Rita Simons, and Lucie Jones, who represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest last year are joined by North East actor Bill Ward (Coronation Street and Emmerdale) star in the singing, and dancing romantic comedy.
Bill was at the Empire theatre during the festive period panto as he played Fleshcreep in Jack and the Beanstalk.
Based on the Reese Witherspoon film, Legally Blonde The Musical earned seven Tony nominations and 10 Drama Desk Award nominations during its Broadway run. In the UK it was nominated for 5 Laurence Olivier Awards winning 3 including Best New Musical, and was nominated for 8 Whatsonstage Awards winning 4 including Best Musical.
